MTL Motivators: Training Skills
In the "Training Skills" Motivators, you'll find some of the best quotes ever written about the skills of training and coaching. Read what Sydney Perelman thinks people will do for a living in the 21st century; why John Whitmore thinks coaching isn't about teaching; where Cathy Crosby says the real gift in learning lies; what Tony Buzan thinks is life's most important skill; and what William Ward says is the difference between mediocre, good, superior, and great teachers. There are 100 slides in this superb collection. Weave them into your formal training as reflectors, energisers, and inspirers and you'll add a touch of class to your training.

"Training Skills" Motivators: "Name Tent Instructions"
As well as using this selection of quotes to learn more about training and coaching, you can also use them on any training course in the exercise of "Name Tent Instructions". Here's how to do it.
Before the start of your course, select some of the quotes from the Training Skills Motivators collection and jot them down on 3" x 5" cards. Have enough quotes for everyone on the course.
At the start of your course, hand out A4 size white cards to every participant. Explain that these are name cards (the cards that sit in front of everyone to show who they are). Ask everyone to fold the cards over lengthwise and write their name with marker pens on one of the long sides, leaving the other side blank. Now tell everyone to swap their cards with someone else, ideally with someone they know well.
Now, place your card quotes face up on a table. Explain that you'd like everyone to come up to the table and pick one of the 3" x 5" quotes that they like from the table and take it back with them to their seats. Add that they are to add the quote to the back of the name tent cards that they've received and, if possible, they should select a quote that is suitable for the person whose name is on the front of the card.
When they've made their selection, ask them to write their chosen quote on the back of the name tent card and return it to the named person who will now be able to see this quote in front of them for the duration of the course.
